Intro to knitting - 4 week class beginning August 31, 2019
Class Summary: SATURDAYS 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM, August 31, Sept 7, Sept 14 and Sept 28 (no class Sept 21)
Whether you are an absolute novice or want to refresh rusty skills, this beginner class will get you going! We will learn the basic knit and purl stitches, how to knit garter, stockinette and ribbed patterns, learn to cast on and bind off, practice the all-important TINKing (that’s how you back up and fix mistakes), learn to read patterns, explore different types of yarn, needles and other tools of the trade. This class is broken into 4 easy to digest sessions, designed to give you time for some at-home practice of each set of skills before building on with new ones. And best of all, at the end of our time together you’ll have your first finished project – a basketweave scarf – to show for your efforts!
There is a class materials fee in addition to registration, of $14, which will cover the yarn, a set of needles and a copy of the pattern for our project. This fee can be paid in cash or check directly to me at the first class.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR - Bonnie Padgett
I fell in love with yarn arts as a little girl sitting next to my Granny, in her old farmhouse next to the wood stove that doubled as a heater. My artwork has transformed over the years from granny-square afghans into stuffed animals, baby hats and booties, and elaborate scarves and shawls. Today I enjoy both crocheting and knitting (though knitting currently is my craft of choice). It’s a great way to pass the time on my frequent travels, in waiting rooms, or while watching tv, but my favorite times are sitting with family and friends, sipping coffee, laughing and talking as we wind the fibers through our fingers and across our needles and hooks.
