How soon should I register for a class?
Classes are intentionally kept small and often fill quickly, so registering as early as possible is encouraged. Registering at least 3 weeks prior to the class start date is especially advisable as classes without a minimum number of registrations may be cancelled. That said, if you find a class you want to take close to the start date, give us a call. Last minute changes may have left a spot open just for your!
What is the cancellation policy?
Classes without a minimum number of registrations may be cancelled. SAFS reserves the right to refuse / cancel registration, change or cancel any class for any reason.
Registration fees are 100% refundable when the school cancels the activity. A participant wishing to withdraw from a class that has not been cancelled by the school must provide a request at least seven days before the scheduled start date of the class. They may receive a full refund, less $25 administrative fee. Within the week prior to the scheduled start of a class refunds will not be given except for verified medical / hardship cases. Refunds for payment made by cash or check will be received approximately 2-4 weeks after the refund is requested. Monies will not be held as a credit for future use.
What are the fees?
Cost for each class is provided in the description. Instructors will charge a materials fee in addition to the cost of the class and/ or provide a list of materials to bring from home. Materials fees are paid directly to the instructor on the first day of class. While SAFS accepts credit cards, many instructors do not, so please be prepared to pay for materials fees to instructors with cash or check. This information will be noted in the class description. Class fee does not include lodging.
What form of payment is accepted?
The school accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover, Cash, or Check. A $35.00 fee will be charged for returned checks.
Where are available lodging accommodations?
When you register for any of our classes we will send you a current list of nearby motels and hotels that offer a discount to our students.
Are meals included in the class registration fee?
We offer a continental breakfast at the school each morning. The catered lunch on Saturday & Sunday is include in your fee. You will on your own for additional meals. We will provide a list of restaurants within walking or easy driving distance from the school.
You must be 18 or over to register for all classes.

The school is handicapped accessible.
SAFS is a smoke free campus. No smoking is allowed inside the building or outside the building within 50ft.
Classroom / Studio Safety
SAFS and it’s employees and instructor’s are not responsible for injuries sustained as a result of improper or careless use of classroom I studio tools or equipment.
Cell Phone Usage
No cell phone use in classroom/ studio during class or during school group gatherings.
The school is not responsible for the security of property belonging to students and instructors.
Students and instructors are not permitted have pets on school property. Service animals are an exception.
The school reserves the right to dismiss any student, without refund, for behavior that is disruptive to the learning environment and to refuse future registrations from such student.
We do not provide baby-sitting or child care services for parents who participate in workshops. Children will not be allowed in the classroom/ studio area while a parent is taking a class.
Southern Appalachian Folk School (SAFS) collects your mailing and billing information to process your online registration requests and online donations. We will use your contact information to confirm your registrations and/ or donations. If you make an inquiry via our Contact Form, we will use your email address to reply to your inquiry.
We do not share or sell any part of the personal information that you have provided to us. Occasionally we will email you to inform you of special events, news, and class schedule information. If at any time, you decide that you do not want to receive emails from us, you can let us know by following the opt-out instructions at the end of each email. To ensure your personal security, this site uses 128-bit SSL encrypted transmissions between your Web browser and our Web server.
